Overview: The Farmers Market Assistant is responsible for assisting and organizing the seasonal activities and operations of the Stevenson Farmers Market, a program of the Stevenson Downtown Association. The Market Assistant will work with the Farmers Market Manager, Vendors and Volunteers to create a welcoming and successful Farmers Market rooted in the goals of the Stevenson Farmers Market and the mission of the Stevenson Downtown Association.
The Farmers Market is a program of the Stevenson Downtown Association, whose mission is to promote and revitalize Downtown Stevenson and enrich the local heritage. The Stevenson Farmers Market takes place at the Stevenson Waterfront on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm, mid-June through mid-October.
Position Title: Farmers Market Assistant
Position Term: Seasonal, June-October, 8-10hrs/week, primarily on Saturdays
Reports to: Executive Director via Farmers Market Manager
Major Duties and Responsibilities: Handling all of the physical requirements of market-day logistics, set-up and takedown every Saturday during market season. The duties listed below are the work requirements needed to be performed by an individual serving as the Farmers Market Assistant:
Market Days:

Unload and load Market Trailer.

Set up and tear down market tents for info booth and weekly music.
-
Display and take down market banners, sandwich boards and other signage.
-
Assist vendors with tents when needed.
-
Monitor vendor tent setup, ensuring each booth has no less than 25 lb. weights safely secured on each leg, resting on the ground and properly secured.

Greet market shoppers and survey them about their experience.
-
Conduct visitor counts at the bottom of each hour for 10 minutes.

Take over info booth duties (general information, EBT and Credit Card transactions, and sales) in the event the market manager cannot be there.

Close out and take down market, including passing out vendor income sheets and produce collection for musicians.

Take direction from and assist Farmers Market Manager as needed.
Financial:
-
Process EBT and Credit Card transactions.
-
Collect data and information to support grant requirements.
-
Coordinate and submit timely reimbursement requests for market transactions.

Track and submit timecard by the 20th of each month.
Communications:
-
Regular check in with Farmers Market Manager.

Return all forms of communication in a timely manner (emails, phone calls, text messages).

Be available immediately by cell phone on market days.

Serve as an on-site point of contact for the market.

Provide face-to-face communication with market stakeholders, including vendors, volunteers, sponsors, visitors.
Attendance and Decorum:

Commitment to work all 18 weeks of the market, 8am-4pm every Saturday.

Attendance required at additional meetings and trainings, as determined.

Show up on time and ready to work by 8am on market days, unless specified.

Casual yet clean appearance, wearing Farmers Market staff attire.

Professional and positive attitude appropriate to interacting with the public in a meaningful and respectful way.
Other duties:

Attend workshops and trainings.

Complete all reporting requirements.

Possibly supervise additional market staff, volunteers or interns the Downtown Association may employ.

Strong interpersonal skills resulting in positive working relationships with the public, vendors, staff, Port, City, Board of Directors and other volunteers of the Stevenson Downtown Association and Farmers Market.

Organizational and reasoning skills.

Attention to detail and follow-through.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Push and pull wheeled equipment, and carry tents, tables, chairs, signs, and other Market day items.

Physically able to lift 50 lbs.

Frequently perform strenuous physical labor in a safe manner: sit, stand, walk, bend at the waist, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Traverse uneven terrain in the performance of duties associated with the position.

Engage in repetitive hand/arm movements, pushing/pulling, grasping, writing.

Maintain a valid drivers’ license and insurance when using a personal vehicle or market trailer for market business.

Compensation:
Compensation is $15.00 per hour. Benefits include sick leave after 90 days.
